His first book, The Oil and the Glory, a history of the former Soviet Union through the lens of oil, was published in October 2007. Putin’s Labyrinth, his new book, profiles Russia through the lives and deaths of six Russians. It was released this week.

How important is Uzbekistan relative to EU/West efforts of getting gas from Turkmenistan?
Welcome back Orta, Uzbekistan wouldn't be a prime supplier, but can supply "bonus" gas, that is natural gas that would add to the volumes. Its participation would also extend the linkage of the region to the East-West axis that leads to Turkey. One hears that Uzbekistan's Karimov is interested. Thanks for the latest note and best, Steve
